Banks
Most banks in the UK are open from around 09:00 – 17:00 Monday to Friday and some open on a Saturday 00:00/09:30 to 12:30. Credit cards can also be used at ATM's, and you will easily find an ATM.
Most restaurants and shops accept credit cards.
Climate
The United Kingdom straddles the higher mid latitudes between 49° and 61°N on the western seaboard of Europe. Since the UK is always in or close to the path of the jet stream, frequent changes in pressure and unsettled weather are typical. Many types of weather can be experienced in a single day!
The climate in the United Kingdom is defined as humid temperate oceanic, a classification it shares with most of north west Europe. Be ready for weather that may be both warm and sunny or cold and rainy: remember to bring warm clothes with you.
The coldest month, statistically, is February with a mean daily minimum of 1.5o C. July is the warmest, statistically, with a mean daily maximum of 21.1o C. The hottest temperature ever recorded in the UK was in July 2022: 40.3o C.
Drinking water and food
At every host family and at the Centre we have clean drinking water.
Our vegetables and fruit are clean, and our meat and fish are high quality.
Transportation
Some of you will need to go by train from the arrival Airport to the host Family after you arrive and from the camp to the departure Airport when you leave. Please bring money for these expenses.
Transportation from the host Family stay to the Centre will normally be arranged by the host Family.
Those of you going from London Heathrow Airport by train will need money for the train ticket.
Pocket money
We recommend all participants bring at least £75 per week to cover expenses during the host family stay, as meals outside the camp, medicines if needed, hygienic items, sun protector and needed
Quiet hours
In observance of the camp policy and to insure the maximum benefit and pleasure for all participants in all scheduled activities, we must insist that quiet hours will be maintained from midnight to 06.30 next morning. You must be in your room for no later than 0:00 midnight.
There will be internet access at the camp site at dedicated hours
Country Presentation
Please prepare a short presentation, about 10 minutes of your country, your hometown, perhaps you have a visual presentation or some slides, some brochures or even postcards to show the others where and how you live. Feel free to take along other props to show alongside the presentation itself including flags.
We have planned some Country presentation Evenings where you will present your own country to everyone.
Tourist DVDs may not be used. A PC and Microsoft Office PowerPoint application will be available.
